Three billion TV viewers; 250,000 visitors. Every aspect of our city will be under the microscope. It's a 17-day event, the likes of which we will not experience again for decades, if ever.

Newest HEAT Shelters operating at full capacity

It has only been a few weeks but already the two newest emergency shelters opened by the City and the Province are operating at full capacity. The high demand of the two newest shelters, located at 677 East Broadway and 1435 Granville, have demonstrated the need for housing in neighbourhoods across Vancouver, and not just in the Downtown Eastside.

According to a report released last week, Vancouver has made some serious progress towards its goal of becoming the greenest city in the world. According to new statistics, our city is on track to meet the Kyoto target of 2.5 million tonnes of GHG (greenhouse gas) by 2012.

As you’ve probably heard, the City is facing a very difficult budget situation going in to 2010. The gap between expected revenues and services is over $60 million. Today, council will be presented with a report on next year’s budget, and the public will have an opportunity to speak to it starting on Thursday night.
