Vancouver on track to meet Kyoto Targets

Green Vancouver

According to a report released last week, Vancouver has made some serious progress towards its goal of becoming the greenest city in the world. According to new statistics, our city is on track to meet the Kyoto target of 2.5 million tonnes of GHG (greenhouse gas) by 2012. Vision Mayor Gregor Robertson said that “the city is showing real leadership in Canada and North America on greenhouse gas reductions.” The result has been a reduction of GHG levels by 11 percent since their peak in 2000 – at the same time as our economy and population have grown.
